Customer Review: Don't go by reviews, test it yourself....

This is the time I am glad I read the reviews but also realized that things work differently for others. I had ordered this coffee maker through Kohl's when they were having a sale. I liked all the features it had listed, not too many bells and whistles. After ordering it I did a search and noticed this machine comes in several colors. I have read the reviews for the other `colors', same model, and they were ranked much higher. I found that odd, the reviews lead you to believe the machine has some sort of manufacturer defect with it. I noticed as I was waiting for my item in the mail another person posted a one star review stating the same problems as the pervious users so I was getting really nervous. At one point I was not even going to take it out of the box but just return it. I though three people have reviewed this and they ALL have the SAME problem, something must be wrong. And I did not want a coffee maker that spat everywhere. My espresso maker spits a few drops and that gets on my nerves. I am very particular about things. When I received the unit I read the book from front to back. I thought if I followed the instructions maybe I would not have the same problems. This is not the type you can take out and just make a pot with. You have to set it up and run a `test' pot first. I knew the test post would let me know. Nothing wrong happened during the test. I was very happy. I then cleaned it again, as instructed, and then put it to the real test. I sat there nervously waiting for something to go wrong. Nope, not a thing! This thing is incredible! I don't know if the previous owners had a bad batch but for someone who is incredibly picky about things this machine operates great! No leaks or spitting as stated with the others. It was all contained. The unit is rather bulky. When my husband saw it he said, "Looks like a space ship!" Other than being bulky I was really impressed with the design. It is modern and looks very classy. I like the fact it has a lot of features but not too many bells and whistles. I don't know if I like it or hate it yet but after it is done brewing it beeps 5 times to let you know it is ready. It is rather loud. But the pros are you get a wonderful cup of coffee each time and the burner stays warm. It even lets you know what temperature the warmer is at. I brewed a pot a few hours ago and just grabbed a cup and it is very fresh. It also comes with a gold tone filter so no more paper ones. The filter works very effectively and does not strain any coffee through leaving residue in your cup like some models. I am very impressed and think I either lucked out, trust me, luck is not on my side, or just took more time in reading about the unit. The only two cons which are minor, when it brews the steam rises, obviously, but it covers the clock with fog; I fear over time the clock might get condensation inside of it. The other is under the unit after it brews the counter is extremely hot to the touch. I know most people do not brew their coffee and move the unit to feel the counter but I really put this thing to the test. I might place some sort of pad under it. Lastly, the cord is really short. Could be good or bad but I needed it longer since I do not have it directly under the cabinet since you would have to pull it out each time to fill it up with water, remember, bulky size. I have it sitting to the side of my counter and the cord is pulling across. Something my husband can fix later. Back to drinking my coffee, I am so glad I tested this machine myself, I am very pleased.
