Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mr.Coffee FTX40 MR.C 12cup COFFEE MAKER PROGRAMMABLE-PAUSE N SERVE

Customer Review: Great Coffee Maker
Summary: 5 Stars

We just moved and our new kitchen is white. We have had this coffee maker in black for a few years and liked it so much we ordered it in white and also have one in our vacation home. It makes great coffee and turns off after 2 hours so no worries about leaving it on during the day.

Customer Review: Best for the Money
Summary: 5 Stars

I would compare this unit to any other on the market today. It makes great coffee and it is programable. I own three of them ( home, office and condo)

Customer Review: I like it in white
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this coffee maker about a week ago, so I cannot attest to the long-term durability of it yet. That's why I gave it only 4 stars.

I originally bought a 4-cup model, but it did not work on two different mornings, so I took it back. The so-called 4 cup carafe is tiny, and produced barely more than a mug of coffee. I drink two or three mugs of coffee a day, which is about 6 to 8 5-oz cups, but there are very few coffee makers that size; so I moved up to the 12 cup size.

The FTX40 coffee maker is priced in the mid-range and offers more features than the $20-30 coffee makers. All of the controls are up front and at eye-level; so they are easier to see and operate (for me) than those with controls on the base. While some of the extra features are not necessary, most of them are nice to have.

The warmer control allows you to adjust the heat of the warming plate to lower it as you lower the amount of coffee in the pot. That way the left over coffee doesn't get too hot. The water windows show how much water is in the coffee maker; so if someone else sets it up, you can tell how much they are making. The water filtration option is useful if your water tastes funny and you don't use any other filtration method. The brew strength selector is good if you like your coffee strong, which I do.

It took me about a week to adjust the amount of coffee and the settings to brew the perfect cup for me. The amount of coffee suggested in the instructions made the coffee too weak for me. Instead of the recommended one level tablespoon (1/2 a coffee measure) per 5 oz cup, I use one coffee measure per 8 oz cup. So for an 8 cup pot (which is about 40 oz), I grind 5 coffee measures of whole beans and use the Strong setting on the Brew Selector. You might have to experiment with the amount of coffee and the Brew Selector to brew the perfect cup for you.

Overall I'm very satisfied with the Mr. Coffee FTX40 coffee pot. I love the looks of it. It is very streamlined and fits into my appliance counter nicely. The white color is bright and cheerful and not as serious looking as the black version of this coffee maker.

So far I highly recommend it. If it poops out on me after 9 months like several reviewers said of the black version, I'll be back to let you know. Otherwise I'll leave this review as is.

Customer Review: Coffee Feedback
Summary: 4 Stars

I have had unit for 4 months now, lots of features, and works well. However condensation accumulates during brewing and leaves a considerable amount of water in the unit after brew is over. I bought this unit as my kitchen is white and there are few coffee makers available in white. I usually keep lid of unit open for several hours after brewing to allow unit to dry out. I do not use the awkward water filtration unit that comes with product; instead I used water that is filtered.
